The Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor is used in most modern vehicles and it provides instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine control unit, or ECU. The date received is used to calculate air density and determine the engine’s air mass flow rate.
Anything that interferes with the MAP sensor's ability to monitor the pressure differential may upset the fuel mixture and ignition timing. This includes a problem with the MAP sensor itself. If your MAP sensor is going bad, you will notice surging, tough idle, a rich fuel condition, which may cause spark plug fouling and a loss of power and fuel economy.
*This is the small design MAP sensor. For the large design, please see OEM PN 038906051. Please check existing part prior to ordering. This sensor is designed to be used with our aftermarket intercooler setups for the 1.8T.
